The release of the Ryzen 7000 series processors answered all our questions that have surrounded the CPU since the announcement in late August. The gaming pc community has been eagerly awaiting this drop and iBUYPOWER has the scoop on the newest AMD processors. These chips see a massive boost in performance, power, and clock speed compared to the previous generations. The 4 new CPUs of this generation bring in the next era of processing performance.
Increased Speeds
The recent release of the 7000 series brought the market 4 new CPUs, the Ryzen 5 7600X, the Ryzen 7 7700X, the Ryzen 9 7900X, and the Ryzen 9 7950X. Each chip saw an improvement and performance over the previous generation with increased clock speeds, cores, and threads. These are the fastest frequency speeds of all AMD processors on the market currently.
- AMD Ryzen 5 7600X: 6 cores, 12 threads, 4.7 GHz clock speed, boosted clock speed up to 5.3 GHz
- AMD Ryzen 7 7700X: 8 cores, 16 threads, 4.5 GHz clock speed, boosted clock speed up to 5.4 GHz
- AMD Ryzen 9 7900X: 12 cores, 24 threads, 4.7 GHz clock speed, boosted clock speed up to 5.6 GHz
- AMD Ryzen 9 7950X: 6 cores, 32 threads, 4.5 GHz clock speed, boosted clock speed up to 5.7 GHz
Zen 4 Architecture
This generation of AMD CPUs provides a 15% improvement to single-threaded performance all thanks to the Zen 4 architecture. The new architecture saw an improved front-end design which boosted the instructions-per-clock (IPC) count, without increasing power usage. Zen 4 Core Complex Dies (CCDs) astoundingly use 57% more transistors than the Zen 3 generation. Lastly, Zen 4 now supports AVX-512.
New AM5 Socket
The Ryzen 7000 CPUs bring an improvement to the AM socket. 7000 series use an AM5 socket, which is a 1718 pin LGA socket with its’ pins on the motherboard instead of the CPU. The additional pins bring more power delivery to a maximum of 242W. However they were able to keep the size dimensions the same as the previous AM4, so AM4 mounting hardware is compatible with AM5.
