VALORANT Agent Deep Dive: Sage

Hailing from the Shaanxi province in China, Sage is celebrated for her role as a Radiant healer. Sage is VALORANT Protocol’s seventh Agent, embodying the resilience and support of a Sentinel. Her unparalleled ability to mend and revive allies amidst intense firefights has solidified her as a cornerstone in strategic team compositions

Background

Sage specializes in maintaining defensive positions and offering crucial support through her unparalleled healing capabilities. Her proficiency in reviving fallen allies and thwarting aggressive advances makes her a calm and resilient force in even the most intense engagements. As she continues evolving within the VALORANT Protocol, Sage remains pivotal in shaping radiant Agents’ future and training. Her recruitment and mentoring of new talents underscores her growing influence within the Protocol’s hierarchy.

While Sage’s compassion and healing prowess are revered, questions linger about the actual cost of her miraculous abilities. Whispers of unseen consequences and imbalances suggest a darker side to her gifts, adding complexity to her character and the narrative surrounding her enigmatic powers.

Abilities

Sage’s abilities in VALORANT as a Geomancer manifest through crystalline Radianite orbs, which facilitate her control over the battlefield, from erecting defensive walls to resurrecting fallen allies.

Barrier Orb

Sage’s Barrier Orb allows her to deploy a solid wall at a targeted location for various tactical advantages. Upon activation, she can place a sturdy wall of energy to obstruct enemy lines of sight or pathways. This defensive capability is crucial in controlling engagements by forcing opponents to navigate around or break through the barrier.

Beyond its primary defensive role, Agent Sage can manipulate the wall’s orientation by holding the right mouse button, allowing her to rotate its placement. This flexibility enables Sage to adapt the barrier to unexpected situations, such as leading enemies into more advantageous positions or boosting teammates to gain superior lines of sight. Barrier Orb can fortify chokepoints or safeguard teammates, such as planting the Spike to protect Sage’s teammates while altering enemy sightlines and movement. By creatively positioning the wall, Sage can force adversaries to reassess their approach, potentially creating opportunities for her team to gain the upper hand.

Sage’s Barrier Orb is a dynamic tool for reshaping the battlefield, whether by redirecting enemy movements, creating new sightlines advantageous to her team, or facilitating unexpected maneuvers.

Slow Orb

Slow Orb lets Agent Sage deploy a slowing field upon impact, creating a patch of ice on the ground to reduce the movement speed of any player caught within its radius. After activation, Sage throws the Slow Orb forward, where it detonates upon landing. This action initiates a lingering field of icy terrain that slows down enemies traversing through it. This slowdown effect impedes movement and emits distinct sounds when enemies step on it.

When attacking, Sage can use Slow Orb to cut off potential flanking routes behind her team, providing early warning and allowing for swift defensive adjustments. On defense, Slow Orb deters aggressive pushes from attackers by effectively controlling enemy movements and delaying advances in chokepoints or high-traffic areas. This strategy gives Sage’s team crucial time to reposition or prepare defensive strategies.

The Slow Orb’s versatility extends to various strategic uses. Sage can deploy it to control defender rotations, forcing attackers to reconsider their approach routes or stall their advances during critical moments. In post-plant situations, the Slow Orb becomes instrumental in securing areas by limiting enemy mobility and making isolating and eliminating remaining adversaries easier.

Healing Orb

Healing Orb is Sage’s signature ability, providing critical healing support to herself and her teammates. As Sage equips her Healing Orb, she can target a wounded ally by firing it at them, initiating a heal-over-time effect. Alternatively, Sage can use the alternate fire while she is damaged to apply the healing effect to herself. Healing Orb operates with a 30-second cooldown between uses.

Amid combat, Sage’s ability to restore health to injured allies lets her teammates sustain prolonged engagements or recover quickly from skirmishes.

To optimize the use of the Healing Orb, Sage must maintain constant vigilance over her teammates’ health statuses. It’s necessary to prioritize healing wounded allies promptly so the team remains at top fighting conditions without unnecessary risks. Positioning is crucial as Sage must balance offering healing support and maintaining safe distances from enemy threats.

Resurrection

Sage’s ultimate ability, Resurrection, revives a fallen teammate to life with total health after a brief channeling period. To activate Resurrection, Sage must aim her crosshairs over the fallen ally and initiate the resurrection process, triggering a brief channeling period requiring focus and protection. Resurrection takes several seconds to complete, during which Sage and the revived teammate are vulnerable to enemy attacks, so choose moments outside of active firefights for safe execution.

Strategic deployment of Resurrection often means prioritizing key teammates, such as duelists or initiators, whose abilities and presence can significantly impact team strategies. It also helps to use Barrier Orb as a defensive barrier to shield Agent Sage and the revived teammate during the resurrection process. Also, weigh the risk versus reward of each resurrection opportunity so the revived teammate can rejoin the fray safely.

Best VALORANT Maps to Play Sage

Sentinels are useful in VALORANT map strategy, and if you’re playing any of the following VALORANT maps, Sage is the best choice for your team:

  • Breeze
  • Icebox
  • Bind
  • Split
  • Ascent

Best VALORANT Team Comps for Sage

On different VALORANT maps, Sage’s abilities complement different team compositions. Based on Sage’s best, here are the best team compositions for those maps:

  • Breeze: Sage’s best team includes Sova, KAY/O, Viper, and Jett. The composition uses Sage’s healing and resurrection abilities to sustain aggressive plays initiated by KAY/O and Jett. Sova’s recon and Viper’s ability to deny enemies any area allow the team to control map objectives.
  • Icebox: Sage should team up with Viper, Jett, Sova, and Killjoy to combine Sage’s supportive role with Viper’s area control, Sova’s intel gathering, Killjoy’s defensive fortification, and Jett’s solo duelist prowess. Together, they establish strong defensive setups, execute precise offensive maneuvers, and maintain map control through utility and firepower.
  • Bind: The best team for Sage includes Killjoy, Skye, Viper, and Omen. Sage and Skye work together to clear and take space quickly and offer healing support to the rest of the team. Killjoy ensures the team’s flanks are secure and continuously monitors critical areas. Viper and Omen’s combined control abilities dominate the small sites and corridors, making it difficult for the enemy to gain or regain control.
  • Split: Sage’s team ideally includes Raze, Cypher, Omen, and Gekko. Omen and Raze provide control and aggressive space-taking, while Gekko’s utility protects the team when clearing corners and maintaining pressure. Although Sage by herself is typically not recommended on Split, they can secure sites and critical lanes when paired with Cypher.
