|
iBuyPower Paladin F870-SB
The machine runs very cool, and is surprisingly quiet. I even had someone at a local
LAN party ask me if it was on after questioning the lack of sound from the machine;
that's a very good sign. Once you game on something like the Paladin F870-SB, you
won't want to touch anything else until it's upgrade time years down the line. This
site is serious business, and if you've got the cash to spend I'd personally take
iBuyPower over going with something like Alienware, which asks an amazingly high
premium. |

iBuypower Gamer Paladin F970
The Paladin F790 especially shined in many of the gaming benchmarks where we used
ultra high image quality and anti-aliasing settings to stress the system. Considering
this system targets gamers, the gaming results are what we feel are most important.
Our benchmarks show the Gamer Paladin F970 is a very capable gaming machine that
won’t let you down. |

So, is the Paladin F870-SB, with its cutting edge hardware, worth it? The Core i7
CPU provides more (way more) than enough processing power to satisfy the demands
of practically any game. The bottom line is that the Paladin F870-SB is a solidly
built system that uses the latest in technology. |

Value Ultra
The included Athlon 64 X2 4200+ CPU sits in AMD's new Socket AM2 and is an excellent
choice for general academic work, as well as gaming and multimedia uses. The Cyberpower
Back to School 2006 also has an AM2 CPU, but it's the slowest model in the line,
the X2 3800+. The iBuyPower used this advantage to come in 23 percent faster in
CNET Labs' new multitasking test and 9 percent faster in the Photoshop CS2 test.
Another similar system, the Polywell Poly 430AM2, has the same X2 4200+ CPU as the
iBuyPower, but it scored marginally better on our tests.
With its midrange Nvidia graphics card, the Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT, the iBuyPower
Value Ultra pumped out a very playable 95.3 frames per second on our Half-Life 2
test at a 1,024x768 resolution. That shows off the difference between the iBuyPower's
GeForce 7600 GT card and the Nvidia GeForce 7300 GS in the Cyberpower system, which
could muster only 20.2fps on the same test. The system should still able to play
most current games even with high-end features such as antialiasing turned on.

If you're on the prowl for a superfast PC, check out iBuyPower's new luxury brand,
Aeoncraft. We tested Aeoncraft's Aeon-8010, which delivers the same hardware and
superlative performance of a $5000-plus PC at the relatively reasonable price of
$3595
The Aeon-8010 is a worthy alternative to gaming systems from Alienware and Voodoo
as long as you don't need loads of free PCI slots and don't mind the quirky design.

the iBuyPower Viiv-350 meets the necessary criteria to qualify as a Viiv system.
PCs with Intel's Viiv sticker are supposed to be optimized for multimedia use and
must include the Windows Media Center Edition operating system, 5.1 or 7.1 audio,
and Intel's Quick Resume instant on/off technology.

Media-XP
It's a quieter machine, an important consideration for the living room. In our speed
tests, the Media-XP enjoyed a slight performance edge, too, turning in a WorldBench
5 score of 92, compared with the CyberPower PC's score of 88. The system is nicely
designed, with two spring-loaded front panels concealing a seven-in-one memory card
reader, a multiformat DVD burner, and two of the PC's six USB ports. The case's
rear provides in and out connections for video and audio equipment.

Value Pro PC
Assembling a budget PC is an exercise in compromise. Which corners can be trimmed
a bit, and which areas require more attention? We look at five budget PCs that cost
less than $1,000 to see how different vendors approach this task. As iBuyPower demonstrates
so expertly with its Value-Pro desktop, it often makes sense to lay a strong foundation.

Battalion-101 SC-Turbo
The Battalion-101 has a blazing-fast 3.6GHz Pentium 4 processor, a gig of RAM (and
four RAM slots to load up), a built-in TV tuner, a 256MB ATI Radeon X800 graphics
card on the faster 16x PCI Express bus, and two 60GB hard drives that are striped
in a RAID array for better performance. It’s the fastest at business tasks, with
a Sysmark score of 261, but the iBuyPower’s 326.8 fps in Unreal and 77.4 fps in
Doom 3 were no match for the Dell’s jaw-dropping scores of 410.6 fps and 101.5 fps,
respectively, on the two benchmarks. Nevertheless, it’s still the second-best gaming
machine in this part of the solar system, and that isn’t a bad title to have.

LAN-Party Mini PC
The LAN-Party Mini PC packed far more punch than any other budget system in our
recent roundup, thanks in part to a 2-GHz Athlon 64 3000+ processor. Its WorldBench
5 score of 80 was well ahead of the pack. We also liked our test unit's 17-inch
ViewSonic E70f flat-screen CRT monitor, which produced bright, rich colors good
enough for photo editing.
